Undying Love By Daniel Kim
Daniel, I’m sorry. Sorry for not realizing how you have felt back then. I was foolish back then.
Over the past months, I received several calls three times a week from my good friend, Daniel Kim. A handsome brother with an honest heart. He is a brother I can really get along.
Daniel liked this girl for the past six years. The first time Daniel told me about his crush, I was quite surprised. She was not just another girl he met in school. She was a sister we’ve known for many years in church. Daniel is always very shy around her and he can’t start a conversation or approach her.
May of 2004, it was her birthday. He told me that he prepared a little birthday gift for her and a letter and he planned to give to her on Sunday. Well, he called me that night and told me how “chicken” he was. I agreed although Daniel is 5′10″ and extremely muscular. He was ashamed of himself when he lost the opportunity. Time passed.
Recently, he heard a depressing and a wake-up call from a close brother in church. Her family will leave the U.S. and go to South Korea due to her father’s career. And after two years, her family will return back to the U.S. but will reside in Washington, D.C. I felt so sorry for Daniel.
Daniel Kim was now determined! He told me of his plan on how to express his feelings and tell her how he felt in the summer retreat. His plan wasn’t too difficult and easily accomplishable. The weekend passed and I received a phone call from Daniel. Another failed attempt. Daniel wasn’t able to pull of his plan during the summer retreat and he was ashamed of himself. He knew his time is limited as she will depart in the month of December and he will regret not letting her know his “everlasting love” for her.
Received calls this week about his plans and a prayer request. Daniel Kim did not only like her, he loved her for the past six years. She may have realized his feelings as Daniel acts awkward and/or cheerful around her present. This coming Sunday, Daniel assured me that he will be courageous and tell her finally. He wanted me to pray about this whole event.
Everytime I receive a phone call from Daniel, I listen to his deep concerns. I’m thankful to have a close brother who shares with me such things of his life. But I wish Daniel had a different goal in his life. We as a Christian should not put anything or anybody before God as it can become an idol in our life. Although Daniel agrees that God should be number one in his life, Daniel continues to idolizing her, in my honest opinion. Love is a powerful feeling and it also can hinder you if you misuse the best gift God gave to mankind.
Love is patient; love is kind.
Love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way: it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices in truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
And now faith, hope, and love abide,
and the greatest of these is love.
